BigCommerce Migration & Custom Pages Development

Migration of an entire eCommerce store to BigCommerce while delivering a fully customizable gallery and resource page, boosting stability, accessibility, and long-term scalability.

The Challenge

The client had major issues of reliability on their previous eCommerce platform and desired a more stable, scalable and easy to use platform. They have faced several setbacks, and finally they reached a decision to completely migrate their store onto BigCommerce with a plan of streamlining their operations and getting rid of any technical inconsistencies as well as to reclaim total control over their products and customer experience.

The Core Problem

The current platform resulted in the frequent mismatch of data, limited design flexibility, and slow updates, and the client had to use two different systems simultaneously. Product catalogs across platforms were inappropriately managed and time consuming. In addition to the migration, the client required a dynamic gallery and resource page to make available part of their previous work and to collect service-related files such as PDFs and videos, which would be easy to update in the future.

Our Solution

Codinative handled the project in two systematic or structured phases to facilitate easy implementation and data integrity. Phase 1 involved the successful migration of all products and contents to BigCommerce. This enabled the client to shut their existing platform and concentrate on a single strong system. During Phase 2, the design of the old site was cloned or replicated and customized to BigCommerce with the same brand belief but a new and improved usability. We also developed additional gallery and resource pages that are fully editable in the theme builder at BigCommerce, enabling non-technical end-users to add and update contents with ease and without a developer being needed.

Key Features Implemented

  • Seamless Data Migration: Full migration of products, categories and assets to the new platform (BigCommerce) of the old platform.
  • Custom Gallery Page: HTML and CSS in the BigCommerce Theme Builder created easily and updateable in the future.
  • Resource Library Page: A dedicated section displaying PDFs and media files with thumbnail previews.
  • Server Integration: Utilized BigCommerce’s built-in server space for file storage, ensuring long-term data security.
  • Visual Consistency: Retained the original design while modernizing responsiveness and layout structure.

Smart State Management

Both the gallery and resource pages were created with editable HTML blocks, giving the store owner full access to update visuals, text, or files. This ensured flexibility for seasonal content changes or new project additions without backend dependency.

  • Media Storage & Mapping: Uploaded PDFs and media through Cyberduck and mapped each file with its thumbnail image for a clean visual layout.
